'Ebenezer's Make Over' Concert
14 Episodes - Steps we need to make change
As the mostly-male US administration’s culture war rages against the rights of women and justice for our LGBTQ+ and other minority communities, it’s clear that men are desperately afraid of change. And so is Ebenezer Scrooge, the main character in Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” story.
Here is a concert film that we can use as a tool to help men see the steps that we need to take to change the direction in which we are headed.
In fourteen short episodes, ‘EBENEZER’S MAKE OVER’ mixes powerful songs from the feminist men’s and women’s movements to create a laugh-out-loud romp through sexist male-mindsets, as three Spirits show Scrooge how his homophobia and male misconceptions about gender, men’s work, war, race, power and money impoverish us all. Hard-heartedness and fear ultimately crush love, beauty and kindness, and ruin our relationships with our children, our fathers, our friends and the women in our lives.
Audiences sing and stand to cheer and applaud this film. They share accolades like, “this needs to be seen all over the country!” and “How can I get this to my community, … and my brother!?”
It teaches without preaching. As Scrooge slowly understands how his life has dried up because of his set male ways, we recognize the behaviors and fears, and we come away better able to address them ourselves without guilt or shame. It’s for everyone, regardless of gender, race, political persuasion or religion.
